Weekly Update - January 2, 2016

Hello Crafty Sewing Ladies, Thank you to all the ladies who came with machines and willing to sew sew sew for the cat hammocks.  We still have a stack (or two) of fabrics cut to size, strips for corners cut to size, just take a quick sew around twice and then ready for kitty cages and those funny furry purrers to cuddle in.

We looked at the "Memory Pillows" - they are really fun, quick, memorable projects.  We'll get the directions in pdf form and do a complete demo again soon for everyone.  Here is a Facebook posting that is very dear and it is about one of these very pillows.  I'm including the Facebook link:

UFO #1 - done; 51 more to go!!!  This week my UFO was a quilt made for one of my sisters-in-law who does a lot of travel.  It depicted cities around the country in city skyline fabrics, of course, the Twin Towers that were destroyed by Islamic Terrorists on 9/11/2001 was one of the skylines.  We must never forget!!  Technique shared:  Faux Piping Binding - I've used it before, but this time around really acquired a complete appreciation for this easy-to-learn and use binding method.  It is now my favorite binding method and one I'll be using all year long as I complete projects each week.  I achieved the easiest mitered corners that I've done in years!!  I've attached two pdf for this binding method. One is 3 pages and one is 6 pages, don't print all the pages, just the ones you need if you want to try this out.  There are good pictures in these pdfs.

Every now & then something so creative and inventive comes along on Facebook or in a newsletter that I've got to include in our club's weekly email.  Such is this ingenious idea of sewing pillowcases together, stuffing with pillows, and wallah you instantly have a roll up bed for little (or big) ones.  Check out the picture attached.  And I've included the Facebook link if you want to see it there.

Show & Tell:

Susan Morris - Zipper Pouch

Lois Rose - Multiple - it's been weeks remember - quilt, gucci dogbed (Helen Lawrie style), applique

(Note: The quilt top was one of Micki's UFOs, I just backed, quilted and bound it.)

JoAnn Colin - quilt and blanket - OK, I've thought this before and now I'm saying it... this lady and fleece were meant to be together!  JoAnn makes wonderful quilt/blankets with fleece - she has a gift with fleece and quilting!!!

Ruth Campbell - made "calm" pillowcases and we're thinking that the women abuse shelter in Ocala will be sharing these with ladies who will need "calm" in their lives - thanks Ruth!!

Cynthia Fellows-White - Ladies, this gal works for Original Sewing!  You know the company that puts on the big Original Sewing & Quilting Expos around the country, and one close by in Lakeland, FL, every March!!  What a hoot she is now coming to our little sewing social club Saturday afternoons here in The Villages!!  She shared with us an adorable key FOB she likes to make and give away for gifts.  We'll definitely look closely at these soon and maybe do this project one week because it is handy and yes, makes an absolute great little gift to personalize.

Marge MacCullay - precisely and beautifully cut up 80 plus 10 inch squares which are being made into a beautiful rag charity quilt for a child - can't wait to see it!!

Next Saturday - going to just call it Sit & Sew at this point.  We need demos!!!  I'll have something to share for sure - always do - and already this week working on my UFO#2 that has echo quilting going on.  It's a man's quilt so I'm sticking with nothing too frilly to "pretty".  Let's see where this takes me - maybe some prairie points, too.

Oh - and next Saturday, we're going to look at TABLE RUNNERS - square and oblong, maybe round, too!!  Lots of patterns to choose from!!

Take care, have a good week, and God bless,
