Show & Tell March 29, 2014

Carol Riggs - back and better than ever! starts off the list this week.  Carol made a "Foster Child's Tote bag".   Carol loves making bags so this one is right up her "alley" or my one-liner - will keep her "in stitches!"

Not ever hearing about these items/bags before, I did the whole google search thing this afternoon and found some pretty enlightening things and organizations.    One called "Bags4Kids says, "
Comfort Bags They Can Keep Forever - When children are removed from their unsafe homes, they travel with trash bags in hand if they have anything. Sadly, the majority have nothing at all. When children must face this crisis alone, Bags4Kids is there to comfort and aid in this frightening transition. We assemble donations into comfort bags and deliver them to police stations and social service offices throughout the area where they are given to the children."
How about that.  There's also "Totes 2 Tots" and "FosterKidsCharity.org" to name a couple more of these type organizations.  Definitely, very worthy causes and probably busier than ever with the deterioration of the family unit promoted in this country for way too many years now.

Mary Kondrad - shared the (almost) finished quilt top of cars, trucks, trains, and all these that go - going around the top of the quilt she's making for her very handsome little 3 year old grandson.  SEW-beautiful, Mary!!

Lois Rose - has been in the rag-quilting-mode and has her very own systematic method of cranking them out - I've lost count now - but these are great!!  You're inspiring lots of followers, too.
Kathy Jones - shared her OOH so cute cottontailed chenilled bunny.  Kathy used a little less stuffing that turn out some pretty soft versions.  And she used front chenille side and plain cotton back, lovely ribbon around neck.  So she has a matching set for her sofa since she used other side of 4 piece flannel of the monthly project to make a "matching" bunny - they face each other - nose to nose cute.
Kathy also shared a project to do with grandchildren called "Magic Wallet" made out of duck tape.  I have one of these made out of wood from very long ago when my boys were small and their Godmother/Great Aunt gave them one of these trickery wallets.  So yes, I did the google thing again, found a document to cut/paste/edit and thus now it is attached.  Thank goodness because it would be hard to describe without the directions.

BJ Herter shared her bunny that is pink on one side and blue on the other side - softly so cute for a blue boy or pink girl.   BJ, you always make the cutest things to share!

Jan Courts - we just love all the things you do - you support every charity of this club - thank you for that - and today you shared and donated Fidget Quilts.  Hopefully, with the upcoming press about these inspirational and loving lap quilts we'll be whittling down the little Fidget Quilt Stash we have on hand.

Show & Tell March 22, 2014

Lois Rose started off show and tell this week with plenty of goodies to share first her fluffy pretty bunny, completed rag quilt which she added batting inside the squares and she added 2-3 inch border around as well.  Lois also shared a beautiful "block quilt" that she put together with practice squares from another project/class.  Lois is adding that to our Women’s Lady Lake Pantry effort.  (Definitely - the quilts/projects do not have to be "rag quilting" ones to donate - we'll take crochet, we'll take panel quilts, we'll take whatever you want to create and donate - it will all be well used and well appreciated by those who need them.!)  Good stuff, Lois!

She also showed some bear and rabbit fabrics that were donated to us.  These are front and back prints that Lois sewed together to make stuffed toys.  Kay Flanagan has been busy stuffing these cute toys.  They will be donated to the Women’s Lady Lake Pantry as well.

Lu Karatzas - I kill her last name every week, and she got us laughing which is something she's very good at by telling us that about the time she learned to say the name, too she married him.  And times when she's a little mad with hubby, she has a special version of their last name that includes an additional "S" when saying it.  Lu shared purses, jewelry holders, shirts made for her Harmony in Motion musical group competition.  Oh, and Lu made her first doggie bed.  She said it's actually a bit comfortable to sit on, too!

Pat Pipa - shared her bunny! so cute and very fancy Fidget Quilts - Pretty and textural - ooh la lah!!

Suzanne Brown - an awesome block holder.  Yesterday's show and tell was a tribute to Suzanne's fun teachings as some of the ladies shared their "Doodling Wall Arts" creations.

Kathy Nichols shared bunny and Tangle Doodling wall art from Suzanne's class - Kathy added red accent patch

(Ode to) Joy Stanton donated a fidget quilt and shared a quilt she made for her mother-in-law who turns 103!  Wow oh Wow how about that.  Joy is so nice and brings Kay Flanagan to/from our meetings because they live near each other.  Tomorrow, Monday, Joy has invited Kay and me to her house to some sewing crafting fun together in the afternoon.  That's going to be a hoot because Kay keeps  you in "stitches".

Linda Parr - shared her bunny - so cute, the bunnies seemed to hop around the room spreading happy-happy-happy smiles

Jane Swafford - shared her latest quilt project - we were glad Jane was over her cold and back with us.  Jane almost always goes to Homewood craft visit but had to stay away this month because she had a cold and did not want to spread the germs around - very thoughtful of you sweet Jane!

Mary Kondrad - shared applique vehicles - these are very creative - she's making and will bringing the completed quilt in in two weeks - I don't want to miss seeing this lady's work judging by the incredibly darling vehicles.

Mary Nazyiowicz - shared some plastic eggs she decorated, several doggie beds,  and a couple cute cute jackets her mom made for her and her daughter a while ago (more than 10-12) years.  I think they are very nicely made versions of Ami Simms "Rag Fur Jacket" pattern.  Ami Simms is a very dear, wonderful artist that shares beautiful information, life stories, inspiration, and so much more.  (Actually, just as I typed this, our club's own Suzanne Brown, reminds me very much of Ami Simms - to start - both are tall and lanky and it goes from there! - Suzanne, I guess that's why yesterday when I was trying to remember Ami's last name yesterday, I looked at you!)  Mary, thank, thank, thank you for bringing your keepsake jackets to show us.  It's a true spark of inspiration!

Becky Chianese - came in as caboose today and shared her version of Tangled Doodling Wall Art with stunning "teal" accent color added.  Everything Becky does has a "wow" factor!

Here are all the bunnies created after last week's lesson on fo-chenille.

Plus a table full of all the fidget quilts completed by our talented ladies this week.
